In light of the extreme hurricane season experienced in the past few years, these products will certainly become more frequently specified in both new construction and retrofit applications in coastal regions.

Miami-Dade-Broward counties are not the only coastal areas that are requiring impact-resistant products. States from New York to Texas reference the following standards in current building codes. These codes mandate the use of impact-resistant products in "wind-borne debris regions".
  • Miami-Dade BCCO protocols PA 210, 202 and 203
  • Florida Building Code protocols TAS 201, TAS 202 and TAS 203
  • International Building Code
  • ASTM E 1886 and 1996
  • SBCCI SSTD 12
